Real Musharaf

It is not at all surprising for me that Mr. Musharaf eventually imposed emergency in Pakistan. It was long ago anticipated. Rather there was news a few months ago that Mr. Musharaf was likely to impose emergency in Pakistan. Though at that tie Mr. Musharaf under some pressure bowed down and changed his mind and denied the news of possibility of imposition of emergency
.
As a matter of fact he tried to negotiate with Benazir Bhutto and Mr. Nawaz Shariff so that he may continue to remain as President even after general election. Mr. Nawaz Shariff could not come to terms with him but Ms Benazair Bhutto agreed to some of his terms only to ensure acquittal of her husband from various charges leveled against him by Musharaf.

When Ms Benazair Bhutto came back to Pakistan after almost a decade Mr. Musharaf could not digest the momentum of crowd gathered in the procession to welcome her. Neither could ISO and various other terror group acting in Pakistan could tolerate the high graph of popularity Mrs. Benazir Bhutto enjoyed even after exile for almost a decade.

Actually Mr. Musharaf cannot remain in peace if he is out of power. He is hungry of power. He came to power by forceful removal of the then President Mr. Nawaz Shariff. His personality is such that he can go to any mean or undesirable extent only to continue in power. He went against the will of people of his own country and supported America in his fight against the evil of terrorism.

When some groups of terrorists tried to revolt against him he supported them too but secretly in the name of Islam. He pretended to have dialogue with Indian Government on the issue of Kashmir under International pressure but at the same time acted against India to please ISI and other terror groups

And his dual policy was proved and got exposed when he stabbed India in the back and invaded India through Kargil entry.

Anyhow, by hook or crook he has to remain in power. He has not read any book of morality. He believes in power and only in power.

That is why I had predicted earlier too that Mr. Musharaf has to impose emergency. He tried his level best to show the world that he is democratically elected representative of Pakistan. But the way election was conducted in the recent past and the way the court stayed the declaration or result of the election he found himself exposed. He knows very well the judiciary is against him and hence the judgment may not come in his favour.

Due to some of the steps taken under pressure of America he became a thorn in the eye of terrorists too. He is now disliked by various Islamic fundamentalists due to his support extended to America. He has lost public sympathy too which he enjoyed through his rhetoric against India on the issue of Kashmir.

He is surrounded by adversaries and there was only one way to escape further humiliation and that was to impose emergency which Mrs. Indira Gandhi used in India during 1974 -75 crisis created by her defeat in election petition of Raj Narayan and due to student movement led by late Jai Prakash Narayan against her.

As such in my opinion imposition of emergency in Pakistan was a must for the survival of Mr. Musharaf. But it is also true that he cannot survive for longer period even after imposition of emergency because public anger is fastly growing against him. International lobby has also realized his true character though very late. Now his days are counted. He has to go because he has crossed the limit of all evils.
